Nomoko’s Swiss Real Estate product is a map based platform that brings together all the relevant property and location data for property developers to find lucrative potential projects.
Company: Nomoko
Date: 2019 - 2023
Contribution: Map design; colour schemes, typography, iconography, interaction behaviours, & data layers
Introduced and lead the map design, working within a small design team and closely with product, data and engineering teams to ship Nomoko's digital 2d/3d cartographic offering.

Laying the groundwork
The immediate challenge was in creating a map language that was flexible enough to show the broad range of data. It would need to be visualized on both a satellite and cartographic base map, and work seamlessly across 2D and 3D. The system had to be efficient enough to evolve at start up pace as the company acquired new data and expanded geographically.
We chose to create a dark cartographic map as this would allow us to use a single theme of map colour-ways that would work equally well on the realistic imagery which is also generally dark tones. It aligned with the brand's neon character and presented a great canvas for the UI and data visualization. A single style meant a single focus in design & development as the platform grew.

Object styling options for realistic (satellite/drone imagery) and abstract, 2d/3d base maps

Property behaviours across interaction states

Data layer for the transit network across Switzerland

Data layer for parking across Switzerland with localised city data in Zürich

Process from benchmarking and reviewing data, to specifications in Mapbox Studio and Confluence

Data layers; Market sales and rental listings, Planned development, Commute time by from city centre

City search result, interaction with property

Outcome
We shipped multiple map layers as new data and partners were sourced, from noise pollution levels to market sales and rental listings, from public transit to planned construction development. The map grew from a city focus in Zürich, Switzerland to cover the whole country and then took the first steps into a global presence in line with the company's new goals.
